One Year On: My Journey with Triple Negative Breast Cancer
Share
A year ago today, my world was turned upside down. On April 12th, 2023, I was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine check revealed a 3.5cm mass. With no family history and negative BRCA gene results, this news came as a shock. The conventional path laid out for me involved 6 months of chemotherapy, surgery, and then 4 months of radiation. But deep in my heart, I knew I had to carve my own path.
I chose surgery without the chemo and radiation, undergoing a double mastectomy, reconstruction, and revision surgeries over the months. This decision wasn't made lightly. Inspired by others' stories and driven by my own research, I realized that cancer is not an enemy to fight but a condition to heal from. This belief propelled me to overhaul my lifestyle, focusing on nutrition, detoxification, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing and so much more!
Today, I stand 48 pounds lighter, with excellent bloodwork from both my conventional and naturopath teams, and a heart full of gratitude. This journey has taught me the power of hope, the strength in alternative choices, and the importance of sharing our stories. My journey doesn't end here; it's just another chapter in a book filled with learning, healing, and sharing.
To those walking a similar path, know that you're not alone.
With love and wellness,
Kathleen
